This is the page to see some classic stuff from the eighties...
Look below for a little bit of stuff on that crazy 80s show Button Moon.
BUTTON MOON!!!!!!!
Let's face it, the 80s was a very scary place to be, especially as far as kids TV was concerned. You may not have thought it then as you plonked yourself infront of the TV to watch your favourite programmes, but looking back on it now... Eek! No wonder I have grown up to be the way I am today. I swear the 80s was just one big experiment by the government to test the impact of severe surrealism on young children. If you never watched Button Moon as a kid, then you've probably turned out to be one of those normal people everyone keeps telling me about. In one episode, they were learning about the history of blanket sky, and let's just say it involved a moon moster in a flying wok! Don't worry though, everything was saved thanks to a giant magnet.
RAINBOW!!!!
The definitive 80s show, everyone knows of the mavericks from Rainbow. The pink camp one, Zippy, the others........The award winning original Rainbow was made by Thames TV and ran from late 1972 until 1992, when Carlton was awarded the London weekday franchise. Rainbow was ITV's answer to the popular BBC TV Play School and the American Sesame Street - broadcast in the UK by ITV - and was launched as part of a new package of day time programmes. Afternoon television was introduced in the UK after five years of repeated appeals before the British Government relented and permitted the extra hours of broadcast time. Pre-school programming was undertaken by four seperate ITV companies. As well as Rainbow, ATV produced Inigo Pipkin, Yorkshire TV; Mr. Trimble and Granada; Hickory House. The companies took it in turns to strip the shows at around midday Monday to Friday. Over the years, the programmes won plaudits from the experts and won the hearts of children and their parents. The way was paved for home grown educational childrens programming in 1971 when in the Autumn of that year, the Authority Schools Committee authorised LWT, HTV and Grampian to broadcast a short run of Sesame Street under the understanding that it's permission "should not be construed as educational endorsement of Sesame Street for British children". This was in part an attempt to make up for the failure of succesive governments to introduce Nursery School Education measures first mooted in the 1944 Education Act. Response to the screenings proved to be very positive and highlighted a void for similar home grown product waiting to be filled.
Rainbow Lyrics.....
Up above the streets and houses, Rainbow climbing high, Everyone can see it smiling, over the sky... Paint the whole world with a Rainbow
SOMETHING TO EAT.....?
WACKY RACES!!!
The Wacky Races was a huge success when it hit the airwaves. Produced by Hanna-Barbera, it spawned
two spin-offs the following year, and a flood of
merchandise hit toy shelves, cereal boxes, and
hobby shops nation-wide.
The plot was simple: 11 outlandish characters
raced each other around the globe to become
"The Worlds Wackiest Racer", but one of the lot,
the evil Dick Dastardly, with his sometimes
faithful companion, Muttley, would go to any length
to win the race by cheating with the most ridiculous
schemes imaginable.
He of course, never won.
HENRY'S CAT!!!!
Fact File
Hopefully here's where you will find the answers to all your questions about our custard-coloured feline friend. Please keep this site tidy let me know if there's any errors or omissions, and feel free to send me your cat info'.
Cast Members
Henry's Cat's gang were a laid back bunch as you can see. Apart from Chris Rabbit there was Pansy Pig, Mosey Mouse, Sammy Snail, Douglas Dog, Ted Tortoise and Denise Duck.
The long arm of the law came in the form of Constable Bulldog, and Farmer Giles popped up reguarly to fume about his cows. Henry's Cat's arch enemy, of course, was the evil Rum Baa Baa. A very nasty piece of work indeed.
Videos
Here's one I've seen. If you know about any other videos, send me the details and I'll put them up here.
Henry's Cat and Friends Thelve Classic Episodes (Uc) ~60 mins.
There are two videos with the same title, both distributed by Link Entertainment under the Playbox label. I saw these videos on sale for £2.99. These were released by Castle and are probably the same videos Robin Blackstone in Bristol told me about. He mentioned a video being sold for about three pounds, distributed, he believes, by Castle Communications and sold under the "Twang" label.
PIGEON STREET
PIGEON STREET
If you lived in Pigeon Street,
Here are the people you could meet,
Here are the people who would say
Hello, Goodbye, Hello, Goodbye
Every day
If you lived in Pigeon Street,
Here are the people you could meet,
Here are the people who would share
the sights, the sounds, the air
Where pigeons beat their wings, wings beat.
Pigeons beat their wings, wings beat
to meet in Pigeon Street
